Old age consists of ages nearing or surpassing the average life span of human beings, and thus the end of the human life cycle.
Old people often have limited regenerative abilities and are more prone to disease, syndromes, and sickness than younger adults.
Our view is old age people are like infant who need constant care and attention. Above all it is the duty of every individual to care of
their parents at their old age. This develops bond between different generations and bridges the gap between them.
Younger generation can learn a lot from the older generation and bridges the gap between them. Moreover living with the family creates a sense
of security and warmth which might be lacking in any other type of residences.
The dream of the people all over the world to live long lives is now becoming a reality due to the socio-economic development of people
and advancement in sciences, particularly medical sciences. In India about 7.5% of the population is above 60 years and the life expectancy
is increasing gradually.
The report warned that India’s current hospital and welfare services are insufficient for the strain
they will face as the pace of population ageing increases.
“These findings underline that with a growing elderly population in the country there is a need to strengthen geriatric care services in the existing public health system so that the increasing care demands of the elderly can be met,” the report warned. It also said the government must increase the availability and take-up of welfare benefits by the elderly poor.
Whether elderly people should live with their children and grandchildren or in retirement homes depends on their personal choice and the circumstances in which they have been living till then. Human Welfare Trust says elderly people must live with their children and grand children.
Most of the old age people have some or the other medical conditions which may require assistance from people around. Some people may or may not be financially sound to live in retirement homes. Above all, it is the primary duty of the children to take care of their parents at such an age For example, In India most of the parents live with their children in their older age. This develops bond between different generations and bridges the gap between them. Younger generation can learn a lot from the older generation where as older generation can know about the progress which the newer generations are making. Moreover living with the family creates a sense of security and warmth which might be lacking in any other type of residences. Finally, living with the family would be a better option.
Children should ensure that their parents stay with them. This ensures that they put up with some sacrifices, if required so that the family system is not compromised. By highlighting that they do not have time to look after their parents, they are only setting up a system where they are themselves going to land when they grow old. If one can afford them to old age home then it could also be managed, care and attention could also be provided at our home by arranging some professionals who will come to home and take care of them. Definitely it cost higher but I think they deserve it. They don’t need money, they need family and want to die in front of their loved one rather than some unknown professional. There are some senior citizens who have resigned to their lonely fate with their children busy working or settled elsewhere.
Some even save up for such homes so they don’t have to be dependent on their children. Some people don’t think that have time today even to take care of their own parents, that mean they are busy running behind money and creating better future for themselves but are forgetting who provided a better future for them in the first place, and even parents at times think that they don’t want to be a burden on their children and they themselves at times get registered to these old age homes, as they are seeing what’s happening in front of them and they don’t want to be let down by their own kids in front of others, and also today people are not giving enough time to their parents and are unable to take care of….and with all the running behind of life and their chaos old parents at home are neglected, their basic needs at times are not met and when they fall sick they hesitate to spend money. Than looking at all of this it is better for them to go for an old age home than struggling in their own home being neglected by their own kids, this should not happen but it is happening. And at their age they need proper caring on all fronts, so it is better for them to stay in Old age homes than living with their own kids and being neglected which they don’t deserve in the first place.
Human welfare trust is bringing awareness among the Younger generation about the benefits and use of elderly people living at home this is done by conducting camping and making them aware the old age are the good advisor and who are the one lead us in the right path and Human welfare trust also help elderly people in the below ways
Finally we would say for the today’s younger generation doing service to elderly people as much as services to the god and we would also tell today younger generation will become tomorrow older generation.
